The "Wild Ride" of Publicity

Deontay "Bronze Bomber" Wilder has an amazing story.

From boxing novice to Olympic Champion in under three years. This has never been done before in the history of the sport. Out of 286 boxers from multiple countries in multiple weight classes, Deontay was number 286 when it came to experience going into the Olympics. That's right. He was the least experienced guy. Whereas most Olympic boxers have 100-300 bouts, Deontay had under 30! When it was all said and done, though, America had only one medalist...Deontay Wilder! Add to that the incredible bond between Wilder and his little girl Naieya, born with Spina Bifida and you can see why so many people are interested in his story. The folllowing are just a few of the publications and media to feature Deontay:

  • Tuscaloosa Magazine
  • Washington Post
  • New York Times
  • USA Today
  • Wall Street Journal
  • Good Morning America
  • ESPN2's Friday Night Fights
  • NBC
  • MSNBC
  • Sports Illustrated
  • Ring Magazine
  • The Oprah Winfrey Show

Deontay Wilder

Deontay "Bronze Bomber" Wilder has come a long way from stepping in the boxing gym for the first time in 2005. Since then, he became Golden Gloves champion, an Olympic Bronze Medalist and is currently one of the top ranked heavyweights in Professional Boxing. At 6 feet 7 inches, Deontay's imposing presence intimidates opponents both outside and inside the ring.

Deontay's amateur career lasted from 2006 until 2008. In that time he won the National Golden Gloves Title, the USA Boxing National Title, the Olympic Trials National Title and the Bronze at the Beijing Olympics. Deontay was the only U.S. Medalist in the Olympics. He did all of this with only 30 total bouts of experience, which had never been done before in the history of amateur boxing.

After completing his impressive amateur run in 2008, Deontay decided to turn professional. He was immediately signed by Oscar de la Hoya's Golden Boy promotions and had his first professional bout in November of that year.

Deontay did not disappoint. He knocked out his opponent in the 2nd round beginning a knockout streak that continues today. His latest knockout runs his record to 22 wins, 22 knockouts and 0 losses. He is primed to become the next Heavyweight Champion of the World!

Deontay lives in his hometown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and is trained by Jay Deas at Skyy Gym in neighboring Northport. He is married to Jessica Scales Wilder and has two girls, Naieya and Ava.

Deontay has been featured in the Washington Post, MSNBC, USA Today, Good Morning America, The Oprah Winfrey Show, ESPN 2 Friday Night Fights, HBO, The New York Times, NBC, Ring Magazine and Sports Illustrated, to name a few.

He has fought in 4 continents and is continuing his quest to become Heavyweight Champion of the World!
